‘Street Soldier’ City Paper cover story.
This was a challenging assignment, as we didn’t have access to the subject and instead had to take a last minute photo illustration approach. I think it came out pretty well, all things considered. Read the story here, or read on for outtakes from the session that didn’t make it to the paper… Continue reading
Maryland Death Fest 2012 feature in Decibel magazine.
This month’s Decibel magazine has a 3 page spread with five of my photos (Electric Wizard, Napalm Death, Godflesh, Brujeria, & GODFLESH) from this year’s fest. Check it out, it’s the one with Testament on the cover.
Dan Deacon for City Paper.
I shot Dan Deacon for last week’s City Paper cover story, which highlighted his new album, America. We shot on his roof, and in his studio, with one of his flags behind him (the flags are the cover of the record and he is having them made to be included with the album!). I’m scared of heights, so the roof shoot was harrowing, but I think it came out pretty well.
Here are all the shots from this shoot, including many which didn’t make the story: Continue reading
Pig Destroyer 2012 promo shots.
Shot grindcore band Pig Destroyer for their label, Relapse. This is the first shoot with their new drummer, Adam Jarvis (of Misery Index fame). See all the photos from this shoot here. Continue reading
Diamond Dustin 4/20 Cover Band Show 2012 @ Sonar
Every year local neer-do-well Dustin Diamond has a cover band show at the Talking Head… well, next year it will have to be somewhere else, sadly, but it’s historically a great time. Different Baltimore bands or mixtures of Baltimore bands get together and do cover sets. This year among the bands were Fairies Wear Beards, which featured most of The Pilgrim doing Black Sabbath songs, and PISS, which featured most of Murder + Josh Seipp (formerly of Triac and Maudlin of the Well) and Matt Gabs from the Biters doing KISS covers… in full make-up! Another fun Unregistered Nurse joint. See all the photos from this show here. Continue reading
The Last Night At Sonar.
Sadly, Sonar is no more. Sonar was a very special place, and had a great staff. Thanks to the club and staff for all the wonderful memories! The last night, in traditional Sonar fashion, was two very different shows, one a Millionaire$ show in the Club room, the other an Unregistered Nurse punk show featuring War On Women, Tacocat, Slutever & Guantanamo Baywatch in the lounge aka the Talking Head Club.
You can read the Baltimore Sun’s story on this here, read about #SonarMemories on Twitter, and see all my photos that are fit to print here.

Baltimore band Hollywood.
Snapped a few shots of Baltimore’s own HOLLYWOOD on the roof of Sonar (RIP) during Death Fest. They are going to use them for promo, or something, I think. Check out the other shots and a bajillion more of the band here.
Baltimore rapper Billy Bloodshot
Baynard Woods and I went and hung out with Billy Bloodshot (check his music out here), a Baltimore rapper, for a profile in the City Paper. Read the article, Baynard and Billy word’s are better than anything I could come up with… Then check out the rest of the photos here.
The Accidental Art of a Dying Digital Camera – on Motherboard.
Motherboard, a division of Vice, found this video I made when I realized my once-waterproof camera had ceased to be waterproof. Unfortunately I only discovered this after submerging it in water, but the video is kind of cool.
They also once posted a short film Ben Claassen, Loren Cox, and I made with a GameBoy Camera, also. Thanks Motherboard!
Sharon Needles pays tribute to Edith Massey @ Deep In The Game.
Sharon Needles, winner of Ru Paul’s Drag Race and noted drag performer, did two pieces at Baltimore’s Deep In The Game party at the Hippo. The second, pictured above was a tribute to Baltimore’s own Edith Massey, perhaps better known as “the Egg Lady”, who was one of John Waters’ Dreamlanders.
Little Richard at the historic Howard Theater, DC.
I went into this show not sure what to expect – I knew Little Richard was old, I hadn’t heard about him playing any shows in recent years… but was pleasantly surprised overall by what I saw and heard. Sure, it was a little sad that he was brought out on a bench, unable to walk on his own, and he certainly seemed a little fragile – but his charisma and voice were still there, and he cracked jokes with the audience and told anecdotes, and with a iconic artist like this, that’s half of what you hope to see at their show. Backed by a great (and large) band, the music sounded great, too. See more of my Little Richard photos from the Howard Theater here.

Sprayer, Balaclavas & Holy Ghost Party @ Golden West
Fun night! Sprayer are one of my favorite local groups to see right now, and Balaclavas were really good as well. Unregistered Nurse continues to kill it! See all the photos from this show here!
Hunx & His Punx & Natural Child @ the Wind Up Space.
I screwed up and forgot my camera battery (violated the “always take a picture before you leave the house” rule) and had to go home, thus missing Nobunny, who opened this show. Always check your gear before you leave the house! Even with that misstep, this was a fun show, with a great set by Natural Child (even with a few technical difficulties) and a crazy, chaotic set by Hunx & His Punx, with the kids in the crowd going crazy the whole time. Click here to see more photos from the show and the inevitable after party.
A$AP Rocky, Spank Rock @ SXSW 2012

Monster Lou Fashion Show (liveblog)
Yesterday I attended a fashion show by Lindsay of Monster Lou. I liveblogged shots of the models and some of the prep via my Instagram and Twitter accounts. Follow me at @joshsisk to get in on future liveblogs, and if you wanna see all the instagrammed shots click here. I’ll post edited versions later in the week.
Trayvon Martin rally at Baltimore City Hall.
Photos from the peaceful Trayvon Martin rally at the steps of Baltimore City Hall. This event took the city by surprise, but they treated everyone well, at least from what I heard. This happened right as the national outcry over the handling of the case was peaking.
I liveblogged some of these photos previously, but here are the real deal photos.
Thaddeus Logan, author of Hey Cabbie!
The other week I spent an afternoon with Thaddeus Logan, author of the book Hey Cabbie! and it’s upcoming sequel. A cabbie in Baltimore City for more than 30 years, his books tell stories about the city, his experiences, and some of the more notable experiences he’s had behind the wheel – some sad, some exciting, some scary.
Thaddeus and I drove around to locations he talks about in the book, taking his photo for a City Paper article about him and his books. The image above is what ran, but click here to see other photos from our shoot.
