I only met her once or twice, but she was a really warm, friendly person who obviously had a ton of talent. It’s a real shame when someone passes away when they have so much ahead of them.
Rest in peace.
Last night, I saw Jay Reatard, Vincent Black Shadow, and Ratsize at Sonar… I loved VBS and Ratsize, VBS was kind of stoner-y and Ratsize was kind of 80s hardcore-y. Never seen either before. Jay Reatard was fun, but I didn’t really see why people are so excited about them/him. Fun pop-punk-esque fast rock. Full set here.
I was tired as all get out, but last week after a fashion shoot, I went and caught the Cool Kids at the Ottobar… they were really fun! Cool old school hip-hop vibe, kind of party rap but without any noticeable gansterism or misogyny! Refreshing show. Check out the whole set here.
Last night, I shot Jamie Liddell at 9:30. He started out strong, the first few Prince-and-MJ-influenced songs were great fun, but after awhile the show just sort of petered out for me… I had never really listened to his music before, though… now I am going to probably check out some of his tracks.
This weekend I made it up to Philly for the Mad Decent Block Party… it was a blast. Diplo, DJ Sega, Blaqstarr, Rye Rye, Flosstradamus, Dave Nada (with his new partnership with Matt Nordstrom, Nadastrom), a ton of other DJs… plus elmo, a dunk tank, tons of food and drink… it was a great time. Check out the full set here.
Friday, Diplo played at Sonar with Dan Deacon and DD/MM/YY (and Emily Rabbit from BBC, Ari Goldman/AFP from Nightmoves)… it was AWESOME. People, as always, flipped the hell out for Dan, and Diplo made the whole place dance like crazy. Check out the whole set here.
Check it out. I have some photos, as is normal, in the “OUT” section. Hi-yo!
Saturday, I checked out the Cut/Copy & Black Kids show at Sonar. Crowd full of unfamiliar faces, but I think I got some okay shots. Check out the full set here.
Monday, I took photos of an amazing show… Bonde Do Role, Old Haunts, the Death Set, DJ Sega… with special appearances by Blaqstarr and Rye Rye (two of Baltimore’s best hip-hop/club music artists). It was amazing, sweat-and-nudity drenched fun. Monday nights in Baltimore are rarely this much of a blast. View the whole set here (but I will be posting some more photos later probably).
Friday morning, at around 3am we were leaving Ben and Kim’s… Brian called me to tell me there was a raging fire on North and Charles. Brad and I drove up and saw a bunch of trannies and what might have been their pimps running from huge clouds of smoke. We parked, walked over to North to get closer… it seemed like it was raining, but it was just sprinkles from the firehoses… the pressure in those things must be intense. Once we got on north we could see at least 10 firetrucks… a huge building next to a church was on fire, and many, many firefighters were working to contain the blaze… pretty crazy stuff.
I photographed the MICA fashion show this year – it was a great time, the designers had some really creative and quality stuff, I was impressed. Check the set out here.
View the set. This show was amazing! DC fans really came out, and Misery Index in particular KILLED IT.
Update: Covered by BYT
Interesting new product seeking to dethrone pocket wizard. Looks like it has promise, it can apparently wirelessly send TTL info to the remote flashes!
